General psychological recommendations to face the Coronavirus

They are very basic recommendations, but if we put them into action they can help us a lot during these days:

  1. Assimilate it and normalize it : we are all displaced by this situation that we have never experienced before. Assimilate and understand that this is a temporary situation and IT IS NOT FOREVER is the first step to begin to calm ruminant thoughts and even anxiety. Throughout life we have or will go through situations that “mentally unset us” because we did not expect them, it was the first time it happened or we did not know how to act in the face of it. This is the same, only we are living it all together.
  2. Do not feed negative thoughts : it is normal to have them, it is difficult to avoid them but it is in our power not to feed them and make them bigger and catastrophic. The answer or the solution to this situation is not in our hands, for that are the experts who are doing a great job. Our mission is simply to follow the guidelines and ensure that uncertainty does not disturb our lives.
  3. Be well informed: being well informed is not being overinformed. We cannot obsess over knowing everything, searching the Internet for information, or constantly watching television for the latest news. This can become obsessive and end up generating a lot of discomfort. The ideal would be to mark one or two moments a day to watch the news and the rest to draw your attention to other things. Obviously something very important is to resort to reliable sources and not any information that we find through social networks or send us to the mobile.

The College of Psychologists of Ceuta has shared this guide that we found very interesting to include in this article.
